Police are hoping a DNA sample from the scene of last week's deadly home invasion in Kaikohe will lead to a breakthrough in the case.
The DNA was taken from a pair of cut-off jean shorts and trainers the offender left behind.
But Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston says it doesn't match anyone already in their system.
He spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
