A government bailout is off the cards for one of the country's major news outlets which has announced it's shutting at the end of June.
Up to 300 people will lose their jobs.
Newshub says it has not asked the Prime Minister for financial help and the government appears to have no intention of stepping in.
Journalists, commentators and some politicians say the closure is bad news for democracy and a forewarning of worse to come.
