An Auckland fisherman who made a gruesome discovery in Gulf Harbour yesterday says he initially thought a body which was wrapped in plastic was an animal carcass. .
Paul Middleton found a bag of human remains when he was out fishing yesterday.
He'd been hoping to catch some kahawai or snapper.
Middleton said he pulled the bag a little further onto the rocks while he waited for the police.
He said the experience hasn't upset or bothered him.
The police are saying very little except that they are treating the death as unexplained.
