Winston Peters says his government's priority for the Pacific is to bring unity and engagement to every country, and to see that the Pacific Island Forum works cohesively.
The deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs has been meeting with the leaders of Fiji and Tuvalu in Suva, as well as the secretary general of the Forum.
Peters spoke to Charlotte Cook.
