Dairy prices have risen for the first time in four months in this morning's Global Dairy Trade auction.
The average price increased by 2.7 percent to an average price of $2888 US dollars a tonne.
The whole milk powder price - which affects the payout for local farmers - rose 5.3 percent to $2,702 a tonne.
ANZ rural economist Susan Kilsby spoke to Corin Dann.
