More heavy rain is expected across the Coromandel Peninsula on Tuesday, with an Orange heavy rain warning in force there until 5-o'clock Tuesday evening.
The rain, combined with a gale force easterlies and king high tides on Monday, swamped numerous roads - closing parts of State Highway 25 at Manaia, Hikuai and just north of Whitianga.
Residents are also asked to conserve water in Matatoki, Puriri and Omahu due to the extra silt in the streams their drinking water comes from.
