Insurers want New Zealand to show the world how to safely move communities out of harms' way, as the country adapts to the changing risks of a warming climate.
It's roughly a year since Cyclone Gabrielle started lashing New Zealand's shores wreaking havoc across huge swathes of the North Island, particularly Hawke's Bay and Te Tai Rāwhiti.
Many homes and vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges, power and telephone lines, were severely damaged.
Insurance Council of New Zealand's chief executive Tim Grafton spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
