Smoke billowing south from Canada's worst wildfire season on record has forced more that 100 million Americans to stay inside under hazardous air alerts.
Images online are circulating of New York's skyline disappearing under an orange blanket of smoke, and people have been advised to stay inside, close windows and doors, and use air purifiers.
The combined area of four million rugby fields are ablaze in Canada, and the smoke is blanketing over US states south of the border.
