Across the Tasman up to 40,000 people who live and work on land contaminated by the chemical compound P-FAS are suing the Australian Government, arguing their property values have plummeted.
The chemicals, found in now-banned firefighting foam used on military bases, have been linked to cancer and thyroid disease.
