Valentine's Day and Auckland Council is hoping the city's dog lovers will make room in their hearts, and homes, for abandoned puppies this Valentine's Day.
Council's animal management team are taking several down to the city's waterfront today for doggy dates with the public.
Animal manager Elly Waitoa says shelters have been overwhelmed with dogs, and they all need a new forever home.
Even those not-so-ready for a long-term, committed relationship this Valentine's Day can go down to meet, play and walk with the puppies.
Nikki Cripps is Auckland Council's Regional Shelter Manager.
Cripps spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
