Voters in the Port Waikato electorate won't be electing their local MP this Saturday because of the sudden death of ACT's candidate Neil Christensen.
They have to wait until a byelection is called. It is the first time an electoral candidate has died after the close of nominations but before polling day since MMP was introduced 30 years ago.
Electoral Commission chief electoral officer Karl Le Quesne spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
