Residents across the top of the South Island will still have to wait for some time before key highways can be reopened.
Long stretches of State Highway 6 and 63 remain closed today after severe damage from last week's floods. While a 'pioneer track' has been carved through Hira to the Rai Valley on State Highway 6, that's currently only for contractors and emergency services.
Several communities across the Nelson and Marlborough are still cut off, days after the worst of the flooding. Marlborough mayor John Leggett spoke to Corin Dann.
