Wellington's Ambulance service has been issued with a Worksafe fix-it notice over the number of exhausted paramedics. It's been told to overhaul shifts and rosters but workers say the real problem is a staffing shortage.
One paramedic has told RNZ the days are gruelling and emotionally draining.
Rob Popata from the Amalgamated Workers' Union told reporter Eva Corlett there are simply not enough people to do the job.
Worksafe, the union and Wellington Free Ambulance are meeting on Friday.
