Jemisin won the Hugo for best novel three years in a row, starting in 2016, for the books in her Broken Earth Trilogy. In this essay, I discuss Jemisin's short story "The Ones Who Stay and Fight," and the story it was inspired by, Ursula K. LeGuin's "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas."
