I didn't want to be the person who made us come down before the summit..." – Jenn CallahanThe Ironman race is known as the ultimate feet among distance athletes. People have died trying this race. Seriously.Today’s guest is among those few people to even dare this feat. The triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim in open water, a 112-mile bike ride and a marathon, which is 26.2 miles. There are no breaks. It is widely considered the most difficult single-day sporting event in the world. Today’s guest is one of the few people I know who have attempted at Ironman. We’ll hear about that story today, but I want you to know the sacrifice that it takes to even train for these things. Anytime I’ve ever talked to someone who does them will tell you, there is no time for television, movies, or hobbies, and you even have to start cutting back on social events or family time. It requires an incredible amount of focus. Jenn is more than a tri-athlete though. She’s done 16 marathons, again, 26.2 miles each. She’s training for another right now and plans to do at least three this year. She’s climbed a mountain, a story that we’ll hear about in frightening detail. She does a backcountry fishing trip that is certainly more extreme than what anyone I know signs up for—eight days in bear country with no gun, no spray, minimal amounts of backup food, and mile-long portages through the woods to hop from lake to lake while fishing for survival. She’s also a hunter in pursuit of many firsts. It goes without saying that Jenn is one of the most driven people I know. If she falls short of a goal, it is going to eat at her like salt on an open wound. Jenn’s first official week with GoWild was at our company retreat, where we played some team building games. It didn’t take long to see behind her sweet and humble presence is a tiger waiting to pounce at the sign of competition.She’s become a good friend of mine and the founders here at GoWild.
