It signifies the enduring impact of the Nakba, which resulted in the displacement of over 750,000 Palestinians from their ancestral land, the destruction of 400 villages and towns, and the loss of thousands of lives.

The commemoration also serves as a reminder that the Nakba did not end in 1948 but persists in various forms to this day. Palestinians refer to this ongoing struggle as the "ongoing Nakba," characterised by ongoing suffering, the destruction of homes, and the loss of Palestinian lives. They witness it through the continuous Israeli annexation of their land and frequent attacks on their homes in Gaza. Furthermore, they experience regular violations of their human rights, both within Israel and in the occupied territories and Gaza Strip.
