Winter Survival Gear

During our recent winter storms, the Department of Public Works and SFPD were confiscating unhoused people’s tents and survival gear, leaving people to sleep in the rain and cold without any protection. Our city’s response was to add 25 more mats to our shelter system which doesn’t provide relief for our city’s nearly 8,000 homeless. Our chapter’s homelessness committee fundraised $5,000 in 2 days to purchase and distribute survival gear to unhoused folks, and set up a hotline for people to report when city workers illegally seize their survival gear.
