The story of Barbara Jordan is this week’s #QueerHistory.  As a Democrat, Jordan was the first African American elected to the Texas Senate after Reconstruction.  She was a lawyer, educator, and leader for the Civil Rights Movement - and she was a lesbian!  Her partner, Nancy Earl was a behind-the-scenes partner, but in the forefront of Jordan’s care when she was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and leukemia.
