Who are The Doors?

The Doors were an American rock band. Formed in 1967, they were among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s. The band released six albums in five years, selling more than four million records and nearly eight million singles in that half-decade, before vocalist Jim Morrison died in 1971. The Doors were the first American band to accumulate eight consecutive gold LPs and they have now sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. The Doors self-titled debut album is their lone entry on the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list.

In 2015, the Library of Congress selected The Doors for inclusion in the National Recording Registry based on its cultural, artistic or historical significance. The Doors is on the 2020 Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list at #86.
