This is the third reading from the fourth part of J.C. Ryle’s Thoughts for Young Men. The third rule is this: “For another thing, resolve never to forget the eye of God.”

Ryle is reminding his audience of the omnipresence of God. For Ryle, this reality should affect our actions and our behaviors.

Not only does God see our actions, He sees our thoughts and our hearts which generate our actions.

He exhorts his hearers to “Live as in the sight of God.” Ryle says this should affect what we do, what we say, what we write, where we go, and what we read. It would be easy for us to apply this practice to the media we consume and how we conduct ourselves with social media.

- Do we really live like we believe God is aware of our thoughts and deeds? If not, why?

- Knowing God is aware of our thoughts and deeds, how should this affect our heart and actions?

- If we’ve acted in ways that we’d be ashamed of others knowing, are we equally ashamed of the fact that God knows?
