In this installment of Ryle’s Thoughts for Young Men, he begins Part Two which contains “Special Dangers to Young Men”. The first danger is pride.

Ryle says that “pride never reigns anywhere so powerfully as in the heart of a young man.” He gives Old Testament examples of prideful men but also points out some examples from the OT that can be commended for fighting pride in favor of humility. The best example Ryle offers of humility was that of Christ.

We must help our kids understand the dangers of pride and the necessity of fixing their eyes on the humility of Christ. Ryle concludes his thoughts on this first danger by saying, “Young men, if you would be wise, if you would be happy, remember the warning I give you, - Beware of pride.”
