#SWRepMatters: How Fans are Pushing for Inclusion in the World’s Biggest Franchise

In the lead-up to TLJ, fans took to social media to declare that representation matters in the Star Wars franchise. The result was #SWRepMatters, a hashtag that trended globally on Twitter on the day of its debut. The ongoing campaign, which has remained popular since, aims to highlight what Star Wars has done in terms of diversity and inclusivity, as well as the marginalized groups whose voices are missing from the saga. Since the campaigns launch in October 2017, its founders have brought the campaign back each month to focus on a different underrepresented group, including people of color, queer folks, and those with disabilities. During this panel, a few of the hashtags creators will discuss the origins of #SWRepMatters, why representation matters to them, where they feel represented in the franchise, and where the movement and the Galaxy Far, Far Away go from here.
