Denise Aquino and Patricia Destine are two rowers-turned-coxswains-turned-coaches who have leveraged their love of rowing and their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to build a vibrant community within the sport.

The pair launched the “Rowing in Color” podcast in January 2020 to amplify the voices of color in rowing. Because of their mission-oriented approach, Patricia and Denise continue to build out the organization, through trainings, webinars, consulting, and other types of publishing and advocacy.

Both proudly identify as women of color; Denise as a Filipina American and Patricia as a Haitian American. Using a mission-oriented approach, Aquino and Destine highlight what it is like to navigate as a person of color in this white-dominated sport. Denise has recently taken a position as National Inclusion Program Manager for the famed George Pocock Rowing Foundation.
