Anxiety is a normal response to situations, in fact one in four people will experience anxiety at some point in their lives. But what do you do when your child or teenager is suffering from anxiety, and it isn’t going away? How do you help them when they won’t talk to you about it? In this episode we do a deep dive into anxiety in our teens and children with special guest and psychologist Dr Zeffie Poulakis. We chat about how to recognise when the anxiety is becoming more than a response to a situation, how to encourage your young person to open up and where to seek help.

For more information, you can listen to our episode last year on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, you can also find factsheets on our website on the mental health of adolescents and infants and young children. There are also great resources on Raising Children Network, Kids Help Line, Headspace, Youth Beyond Blue, ReachOut, the BRAVE self-help program and eheadspace.

If your young person needs immediate help, they can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14, Kids Help Line on 1800 551 800 or please call 000.

We love to hear from our listeners with their questions. Keep an eye out on our Facebook and Instagram pages for opportunities to be involved in upcoming episodes. Visit our website to find out how you can sign up to our newsletter and keep up-to-date with our latest episodes.
