Cumulus Media’s long-standing San Francisco radio news station KGO recently laid off its news staff, at the same time the company’s rock station KFOG also fired most of its on-air staff. We discuss what this means for Bay Area listeners and what it indicates for the future of radio journalism.

Jennifer Waits joins to bring us the latest in college radio, including news of a devastating fire at one station, and she lets us know about opportunities to propose talks and panels for the next College Broadcasters Inc. student media conference. Also, inspired by news that NYU’s campus coffee shop is playing that school’s radio station on the loudspeaker, Eric and Jennifer discuss why it’s great when campuses and business play great local radio stations.

We’ve got three candidates for a new tagline for our show. Take a look at them and then let us know your pick. Comment on this post, email us at [email protected], or tweet us your favorite.

By popular demand we want to turn the Radio Survivor Podcast into a weekly radio program for any non-commercial radio station to broadcast, free of charge. We need your support to do this.
