What happens when you age out of foster care? In the past, you were given a $1,500 stipend to buy all of the furnishings for your apartment. In New York City, this would barely buy the bed and the dresser - let alone kitchen, bathroom supplies and everything else you need for basic apartment living.

Hearts to Homes, founded by Mary Theresa McCombe, furnishes apartments with new items and helps move these young adults in. Shantia Aikens, a recipient, shares her story. Cardinal McCloskey, an organization in the Bronx, administers foster care to hundred of children and young adults. Staff members Fortunata Lardo-Dimarco and Monnette Abdus-Shahid share their experience in the field and the importance of the work Hearts to Home is doing.
