It’s Friday 12th March

In today’s newspapers

Qatar Airways becomes the 1st Middle East airline to trial the IATA travel pass

The IATA travel pass ensures passengers receive up to date information on COVID-19 health regulations in their destination country, as well as sharing COVID-19 test results with airlines to verify they are eligible to undertake their journey.

From March the 11th passengers planning to travel on Qatar Airways Doha Istanbul route will begin trialling the new digital platform offering a more safe, secure, and contactless experience.

Europe clears Johnson & Johnsons Single Shot vaccine

Yesterday Europe approved Johnson & Johnson’s single dose COVID-19 vaccine. Paving the way for the first shots to be delivered in a month as the bloc seeks to speed its stuttering inoculation campaign and boost its supplies.

This is the first single shot COVID-19 vaccine, and it has already been approved for use in the United States, Canada and Bahrain.

The ministry of public health takes precautionary measures on some food products imported from India

Instructions have been circulated to all ports that samples must be withdrawn from all consignments of green peppers, cardamom and a type of frozen buffalo meat imported from India. Stating that these products should not be released until proven safe and conforming to the requirements of the technical regulations and relevant standards.

As of the 1st of April 2021 it will be mandatory that all shipments of green peppers, cardamom and the specific type of buffalo meat imported from India, have an attached certificate stating their safety and suitability for human consumption. The certificates should also state that the green peppers and cardamoms are free from pesticide residues, and that the Buffalo meat is free from salmonella.

Now for today’s temperatures

Doha will be between 23 and 37 degrees. Elsewhere in Qatar it will be between 17 and 36 degrees.

Here’s today’s COVID update.

In the last 24-hour period, there have been 468 new cases of COVID-19 and 323 recoveries. Which means there’s been an increase of 145 cases giving us a new current total of 11,323 active cases.
