Mike Sharp didn’t let the pandemic stop him from starting his own independent insurance agency. In August 2020, he realized his dream and opened the doors to his office in the Brentwood borough. Both he and his wife did the bulk of the renovation work to the space, which needed considerable upgrading before they could open to the public. Mike’s experience as a sales agent, manager, and recruiter with two large national insurance companies has given him the confidence and depth of knowledge necessary to build his own firm. His choice of creating an independent agency allows him to provide his clients with multiple options from a variety of insurance carriers.
Aside from his career in the insurance industry, Mike has worked as a police officer in the Pittsburgh area for a number of years. His experience in law enforcement has given him the negotiation and communication skills necessary to provide his clients with a high level of service. In this episode, Mike explains the most common mistakes he sees entrepreneurs make when it comes to buying insurance. He also explains why pandemics are not covered in insurance policies, much to the surprise of small business owners everywhere this year. And he ends the interview with some sage advice that all up-and-coming entrepreneurs should hear.
