Matthew Series 10
In this message, the Lord continues His “sermon on the mount” address. The Lord compares His teaching to the law, showing that even to call a person a contemptible name will make him liable to punishment in the kingdom of God. What is the “Gehenna of fire” He mentioned? When bringing a gift to the altar, one should first make things right with one who has something against you. The law said to not commit adultery, but the Lord teaches that even looking at a woman is adultery in the heart. It is better to take drastic action to cut a thing out of your life than that it cause you to end up in Gehenna. The Lord speaks of divorce. He speaks of oaths, saying that they should not take oaths at all, but just make your “yes” to be yes and your “no” to be no.
