In this message, the Lord completes His last three woes against the scribes and Pharisees, those hypocrites. He is sending them prophets, wise men, and scribes, and they will persecute them, scourge them, kill them, and crucify them. The blood of all the righteous blood shed on the land will come to the account of these wicked men, since by murdering the righteous men of their own day they show they would have been complicit in the murdering of the righteous men of the past, if they had had the chance. The Lord then weeps over Jerusalem, testifying that He often desired to keep and protect them like a mother hen her chicks, but they refused, and now they would be desolate.
