Matthew Series 29

In this message, we consider the Lord’s second parable of Matthew 13, a likeness of the kingdom of God. This is the parable of the wheat and the tares, sown among the wheat by the enemy. We do not have to wonder what the interpretation of this parable is, for the Lord gives it Himself, and we skip over the intervening parables to consider the interpretation and the parable together. Yet it is important not to change the picture the Lord was painting to suit our preferences. This is the interpretation, and we should not change the interpretation to be a second parable. This is a likeness of the kingdom, not of the church or Christendom. These tares are something that takes place during the kingdom: the evil one sows his own sons into the kingdom, and the Lord removes them at the harvest time, which is His second coming.
