So this week we are praying God uses the mistakes we make to propel our kids into the future He has for them.

We are also asking God to give us opportunities to clear the air and bring forgiveness into those hurting places in our kids' hearts.

ACTION STEPS:

1) Pray for opportunities with your kids to have real conversations about things you have done to hurt them in some way. If your kids are old enough, ask them... What is something I have done you would consider a parenting fail?

2) Have hard age-appropriate conversations with your kids about mistakes you have made and ask them for forgiveness. Model this next time you make a mistake too.

3) Don't take their response personally, even though it can be tough not to. We all make mistakes. Your kids want you to acknowledge the mistake so they can move past it.

4) Listen this week to Prayers From a Mom Podcast and join me in praying for this each day.

FOCUSED PRAYER:

Father, I am grateful that you are bigger than any mistakes I make with my kids. Help me forgive myself for the mistakes I have made. Show me things I have done that have caused heartache for my kids and help me restore what was broken. Give me opportunities to have hard conversations with them that will bring healing to areas they have been bottling up. Lord I have read about so many imperfect people you used to do incredible things for the kingdom of God and I know you will do the same for me and my children. Help me get over my pride and fixed authoritarian mindset to give my kids the love and grace they need.

In Jesus Name, Amen!

SCRIPTURES TO PRAY THIS WEEK:

Genesis 3:6-7

6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

Genesis 16:1-3

1 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar. 2 So Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.” And Abram agreed with Sarai’s proposal. 3 So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife. (This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.)

Genesis 18:13-15

13 Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Can an old woman like me have a baby?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” 15 Sarah was afraid, so she denied it, saying, “I didn’t laugh.” But the Lord said, “No, you did laugh.”

Genesis 19:16-17, 23-26

16 When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the Lord was merciful. 17 When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!” 23 Lot reached the village just as the sun was rising over the horizon. 24 Then the Lord rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah. 25 He utterly destroyed them, along with the other cities and villages of the plain, wiping out all the people and every bit of vegetation. 26 But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.

Genesis 37:3-4

3 Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. So one day Jacob had a special gift made for Joseph—a beautiful robe. 4 But his brothers hated Joseph because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldn’t say a kind word to him.

1 Samuel 16:8-11

8 Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “This is not the one the Lord has chosen.” 9 Next Jesse summoned Shimea, but Samuel said, “Neither is this the one the Lord has chosen.” 10 In the same way all seven of Jesse’s sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” 11 Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.”

Titus 3:4-7

3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. 4 But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.
