Today we’re talking about debt. This one hits home. Jenny and I are on the road to sinking our debt. This means there are decisions to make: hard decisions.

This is part 2 of a series we’ve entitled The Great Escape. We are trying to find GOD’S way out of the traps of consumerism and materialism and debt. Remember last week – this isn’t about the church needing money. In fact, through this congregation God provided for our needs once again. In 2019 our offerings were above what we had expected. That’s awesome.

But even if someone wrote a check to take care of the entire 2020 budget this morning, I would STILL preach about finances. Finances SHOULD be taught in churches: Jesus said more about money and resources than he did about Heaven. The Bible ties our spiritual maturity with our financial understanding. Those who are out of control in this area of their lives tend to be out of control in other areas of our lives as well.

So this is about YOU, really. YOU finding health in this area of your life so that when those occasions arise where you fell led by the Spirit of God to be generous, you will be able to be generous. It’s not just about the tithe. It’s about the WHOLE SHEBANG.
