Daniel 6

So Nebuchadnezzar is gone, his successor Belshazzar has been judged and God has raised up the Persian emperor Cyrus to overthrow the Babylonians. The Medean ruler, Darius, is now overseeing the governance of Babylon, and Daniel has once again impressed the ruler with his wisdom and his integrity. And Daniel is lifted into a position of high authority through the blessing of God.

But not everyone was happy with Daniel’s promotion. Jealous politicians conspired to get Daniel out of the way - and it was just as sneaky as anything you’d find in Washington D.C. today.

Have you ever wished not-so-nice things on those who attack you?

Daniel and his friends have definitely seen opposition while living in Babylon. And yet they stand firm - and what’s interesting to me is that the confidence in which they face the opposition enables them to not strike back…

Are they just not human? Do they not get angry and frustrated? Are they never tempted to counterattack?

I can understand people wondering how to stand up against the forces that seem very scary in our culture and our country today. I know we know that God is in control - but at times, the lions that we face are truly frightening.

Oh LORD! When will this end???
