This Father’s Day morning I want to briefly address the men of PBCC.
YOU MATTER. DADS MATTER.
Our society has told you that you’re just a donor of genetic material. You have been relegated to an afterthought of the courts, an object of suspicion to the child welfare system, and a buffoon to the media outlets. But I believe that scripture models this principle for us: the more encouraged and supported the fathers in this country become, the better fathers they will become, and the better our society gets. When we stand to be the kind of men God created us to be, our world changes because once our homes have been transformed by the life exemplified by dads, children become who God had intended them to be from the beginning of creation.
So moms, kids - let's show our appreciation for the dads in our lives right now.
Our scripture this morning are the last words of King David - arguably Israel’s greatest king - who is on his deathbed giving some final words to his son Solomon. These words are in 1 Ki. 2:2-4
