Have you ever seen the verse from Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans that I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future.”?
You can’t miss it, since we put it on posters and coffee mugs and t-shirts! It’s one of the Christian’s favorite Bible verses because it just makes us feel so good about what’s happening in our lives.
It’s funny how we often grab hold of verses that SOUND great in one way - but we don’t really see the CONTEXT of the verse. I have heard this verse quoted about how God wants His people to live wonderfully prosperous lives, devoid of tough times. And I think, “Do you not KNOW the situation that led Jeremiah to write these words?”
As we begin this morning, let’s look at the context of Jeremiah 29:11.
