PSALMS SERIES: WEEK 03 - PSALM 5 - “PERSUASIVE PRAYER”

Psalm 5 is an interesting psalm to study. The things of this world that the Psalmist brings up in prayer to God have a tendency to “stink” to many people. Injustice - the bad guys win and it doesn’t seem fair - in fact we even sometimes use the phrase “well, that stinks.”

And yet as you proceed through the Psalm, as we will do, it becomes clear that there is an attitude and there is a course of action that can change the aroma from something confusing and repellant to something that draws us nearer to God.

Perhaps you are here today and you still bring skepticism to the things of faith. You may still wrestle with the question that if God is good, why does He allow evil and pain and suffering to exist?

I hear that question a lot in our world today. And, by the way, even as a pastor, I’m rarely offended. I only get upset when the question is asked with no intention to actually search for the answer. If you are asking that question - good! It’s a question that the Bible itself wrestles with from time to time. So you aren’t the only one to have that question. My question to you is this: do you REALLY want to seek understanding - or are you allowing that question to actually pull you away from God?
