Our main story today is actually a smaller story intertwined with another, bigger story that I want to tell you through Flannelgraph today…
And the walls came a-tumbling down. Except for part of one wall – a fact that, according to Answers in Genesis, has been confirmed by archeological digs in the ruins of ancient Jericho. A German excavation in the early 1900’s found that on the north side of the site of the ancient city there was a short stretch of the lower city wall that did not fall down as everywhere else. A portion of that wall was still standing to a height of over eight feet. What is more, there was evidence that houses were indeed built against the wall. So it is very exciting to me to read in Joshua 2 of a woman whose home had been incorporated into the city wall.
It’s this woman whose story I want to focus on this morning. Her story is why you are holding a scarlet cord today. She is a woman for whom the color scarlet will be forever connected, both as it represents SIN and as it also represents HOPE. Here was a lady whose life truly was hanging by a thread. Her name is Rahab, and her story is there in Joshua 2, as well as in Joshua 6.
