In this episode of Podcasting Mastery, James Martell tucked into the ‘Secret Beach Hut Studio’ talks with Tequila Dodard, Host of the “Stand Out Be You” Podcast about finding your voice, crafting your podcasting story and why she decided to hire a podcasting coach.

Tequila Dodard is a former Corporate Executive and was used to working and putting in the time. However, as she said “this go round I wanted to earn my income a little differently”. She goes on to say “I simply wanted to earn from home, impress my kids and help my guy (hubby) out with money for: Yeah! My constant need for travel.” She wanted to create that ‘portable income’ that which can move around with her as she traveled. She found that was only possible using the Internet.

Blogging vs Podcasting

Before getting into podcasting, Tequila has done some freelance writing and blogging, getting residual income. But she understood she had a love-hate relationship with the blogging world. In due course, instead of going back with the degrees she had, she’s decided to look into what she could learn more on the Internet utilizing the current skills and taking those skills to the next level. She found podcasting a lot easier because you’ll be able to come and share your thoughts, get your content out just by actually speaking what’s in your mind that you really would have written on your blog. You’ll be able to get all that out and then transcribe the media.

You Don’t Have To Be Perfect, You Just Have To Be YOU!

In Tequila’s opinion, mistakes are where we learn the most from. She says to her children in the house, ‘You don’t have to be Perfect you just have to be you’. Trying to figure out herself how she can fit into the online world or community, she was trying to perfect everything. That ‘perfection’, she found was holding her back. Eventually, she started to say to herself, ‘You don’t have to be perfect, just be you. It just makes it that much easier for you to move to the next step.’

Podcasting made Tequila very excited. However, the technology end of it was again trying to perfect it and trying to get it exactly right. It was holding her back and that’s where James, who’s an expert podcast coach, came to her rescue. James has assisting coaches, entrepreneurs, writers, author, and speakers how to start successful and profitable podcasts. Tequila shares her experience going through James’ coaching process and why you should hire a podcasting coach.
