Steve and Gary became acquainted through their legislative activities and the mutual love for the Plott breed and have had many conversations over the years. Gary is a humorist with a gift for telling stories from his native West Virginia, many centered on hunting with hounds and jam-packed with local color.
Knapp provided material for Steve’s monthly columns in American Cooner magazine under the heading “Mule Tales.” Gary was given the nickname Mule as a result of his strength and work ethic when a younger man.
