The political chaos that has dogged UK politics since Brexit crept onto centre stage in 2015, reached another inflection point over the weekend.

In the past hours Boris Johnson announced he would not contest the leadership vacated by Liz Truss, who upon her resignation last week became Britain’s shortest serving Prime Minister.

Johnson had been so intent on running again for the top job that he cut short a holiday in the Bahamas.
