January 27, 2973 – Camp Elephant Rock, Near Palmer Lake, CO

I was nine years old when the announcement of the Paris Peace accords happened in January of 1973. To say that there were other things on m mind that day would have been about a six foot deep understanding.

But even with that distraction, I clearly recall the moment that we heard the announcement that the Vietnam war was “over.” At least as far as the United States was concerned.

Today instead of a joyous reception at the terse announcement of the end of a contentious war, we got a Tweet and a rather subdued press conference.

We won’t have the issues we had in 1973-74 with returning troops. I have questions about why that , but even with that we still have the uneasy feeling that we didn’t do enough or even everything that could be done.
