If you’re like me, then you will probably never read this. That’s why we listen to podcasts, right? So we don’t have to read! But, Tony and Dan insisted we have Show Notes so...

Welcome to Alex’s Super Secret Show Notes Show!

In a lot of ways, podcasts are an improv show. And like a good prerecorded improv show, there’s tons of refinement and mistakes taken out during the editing process. But it’s only practical to edit things OUT of the show, not put them in.

That’s where I come in.

If you’re a nerd, are bored, or my mother, this is where you can come for that itsy bitsy extra bit of content! For example, did you know that I, Alex, worked at GameStop for over a year? Sure they promote pay-to-win games, preorder culture, and micro-transactions, but at least they’re always understaffed. Wait, I meant their employees are underpaid. WAIT, I meant they sell defective merchandise. BAH HUMBUG!

Okay okay, to be fair and balanced for a moment, I do appreciate having access to a sizable library of video games, dating back to the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, right in my hometown.

Personally, I would encourage you to support your ‘mom and pop’ retro game stores as much as possible, but ultimately you should make the decision that saves you the most money and/or is the most convenient. Retro game prices can vary wildly, but is still one of the most cost-effective and enjoyable gaming experiences available.

For example...

According to pricecharting.com you can find a Super Nintendo Console ($41.07) and Super Mario World ($13.94), IGN’s top-rated game of ALL TIME, for $55.01! By comparison, your typical new game starts at $59.99. If you want a console to play your shiny new game on, you may be able to find an Xbox One S for $199.99, but the Xbox One S, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch are all typically $299.99.

The best advice I would give, if you’re not used to buying retro games: only buy games you can play. If you just want something to display, try looking for original art on etsy.com or similar. There are plenty of video game-loving artists out there looking to share their passion for gaming with creative works. Many of them are original and beautiful.
