Style Files: Episode 15 - American Lager

In this episode Bob and I continue with lager month as we breakdown American Lagers. The American lager has little in the way of hop and malt character. A straw to gold, very clean and crisp, highly carbonated lager. Next to American Light lager this might be the second most popular beer style in the U.S.

Style examples:

1.     AB/InBev – Budweiser

2.     Founders – Solid Gold

3.     El Segundo Brewing Company – Broken Skull

ABV: 4.2-5.3%

IBUs: 8-18

Color: 2-3.5

Serving Temp: Go cold — anywhere in the 33- to 40-degree range is suitable for macro lagers. This is around your average refrigerator temperature, with 33 degrees, near freezing, on the low end. Your sweet spot is really between 36 and 38 degrees, which is the temperature of most draft beer systems.

Serving Pressure:  10-14 PSI
