I was never fond of reading for the most part of my life (I'm 27 years old, for context). Most of the books I've read growing up were either required reading material at school or the dictionary or an encyclopedia. And yes, I'm part of the generation who skimmed through all of volumes from A-Z.

But last year, I made a change as part of my goal to better myself at least 1% per day. And that's when I developed a healthy daily reading habit. Instead of watching a video or a Netflix episode, I'd read. Instead of scanning YouTube for videos while I eat, I read. It's no easy task for sure, you really have to stick to it and practice it for you to become an efficient and effective reader. Because reading is one thing and comprehending what you've read is another.

Some of the benefits that I observed when I started reading daily:

- Improved concentration (you're not easily distracted)

- Increased attention span (refraining from using social media apps will help, too)

- You'll be involved in better conversations (whether with a friend, your mom, or a stranger)

So in today's episode, let's discuss the first book or first chapter of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. I read this book for the first time last August 2022 and read it again last February 2023. This is one of the books that you must reread at least once every single year.

We'll continue this series in the next few weeks and discuss the next books/chapters. I hope you find value in this and if you're willing, try reading the book, too.
