It’s a rare person who’s willing to engage in thoughtful dialogue to consider the possibility that his or her own view is flawed. Because really, we all stick to our opinions because we believe them to be correct. Not every idea can be correct, however. If we are to learn and grow, it’s necessary that we all learn how to engage with ideas that differ from our own.

In this episode of Persuasion, Erin Straza and Hannah Anderson kick off a new series titled Ready, Set, Think! Each episode will explore how we arrive at our beloved stances and opinions and ways we can grow in processing information. “Thinking It Through” is the first discussion of the series, in which Erin and Hannah present a compelling case for rigorously analyzing the way we think about important matters. Discussion covers the way our brains stick to familiar thought patterns and ruts, why our emotional reactions to hot-button issues reveal our biases, and how we all come into situations predisposed to a certain perspective. Because the way we think affects how we engage with our neighbors and cultivate grace in the world, Erin and Hannah passionately argue for Christians to explore the heart-level undercurrents that affect us unaware.
