Jelissa De Torres is a carpentry apprentice working with Caisley Developments and attending the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Her introduction into the trades was in 2019 when she participated in a Women in Trades: Introduction to Carpentry, held by the Open Door Group.
On evenings and weekends, she runs a business designing, and building, a variety of custom wood pieces for event planners, decorators and local businesses. She's a passionate advocate for mental health and women in the trades. She hopes to one day start a summer camp for young girls where they can both explore the skills one learns in the trades, as well as develop personal skills, such as confidence and assertiveness, in a supportive community.
