In this episode Paul talks with James Kwantes, a Canadian mining journalist and editor of junior mining investment publication Resource Opportunities. The conversation starts with James explaining why Vancouver is a hub for mining exploration companies. The two then discuss how the global move to sustainably is dependent on raw materials like metals. Next, James shares a story of his visit to the Karowe mine in Botswana shortly after Lucara Diamond recovered the famous Lesedi la Rona and Constellation diamonds. Paul and James also discuss how junior mining companies behave in a commodity “super cycle,” mine visits and helicopters and how the recent difficult stretch for the diamond mining industry underscores the inherent rarity of economic deposits in places like Canada. The episode concludes with James providing an update on diamond explorer North Arrow Minerals, a company which he covers.
