Welcome to "Get Thee Behind Me," a new series from Unfinished Community where we explore the objectively terrible theology and somehow even worse writing of the "Left Behind" novels from the late 1990s. These books (and other media) were a massive hit in their time, but they didn't come out of nowhere; they're the evolution of centuries of heresy and cultism made manifest with all the polish and shine that the evangelical/political organization in America could bring to bear.

In Episode 5, we are joined by our good friend Tim Gross and, of course, Lady Courtney the Eternally Present! In this episode, our first two-parter, we begin going after Chapter 4, which has more baked-in racism and sexism than we've seen yet! Why is everyone so interested in international currency changes in the middle of an apocalypse? Why is every service-industry person female, and why are they all nagging all the time? Why is the "Asian" reporter so important to the story? Did Irene do anything OTHER than housewifery? The answers to these questions are...anti-semitism, sexism, racism, and OH MY, NO.
