As we bask in the ambiance of black history month, I wanted to set the record straight.  Believe it or not, we have some who have turned from the bible, deeming that God and His Word ordained oppression and an advocate for slavery, based on one scripture, Ephesians 6:5, which reads, “Slaves obey your masters.”

There are a total of 31,102 verses in the Bible, but the flawed and lazy human mind will take one verse and use it to build cults and denounce the deity and heart of God without ever reading the entire text concerning a verse.  The bottom line is we all know Satan will do anything to keep people from the truth because the truth destroys Satan’s kingdom.

As I talk to you this morning about slavery, first and foremost, let’s understand that the slave system we know as part of American history is not the complete or initial slave system that ignited in biblical times.

The initial form of slavery did not revolve around mistreatment, cruelty, and the infringement of one's freedoms. In the bible, there is no mention of employee or employer, only slave and slave master or servant and master. The term "slave" was often used interchangeably with "servant." Through a thorough examination of biblical scripture, I want to know and understand that God did not and does not condone oppression or slavery.
